Bitrate

Drop it in. Get the format you need.

Drop audio files on the window, pick a format and get them back with their tags and cover art intact. Bitrate converts to the seven formats people actually use, from MP3 to FLAC, with its own copy of FFmpeg inside. No Homebrew, no command line.

What it does

What Bitrate does

One small window for everyday audio conversions, natively on Apple silicon.

  • Drag and drop

Drop files on the window or the Dock icon, or use Open With in Finder. A whole selection goes into one queue.

  • Seven formats, eleven presets

MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG Vorbis and Opus, from MP3 V0 to 24-bit WAV, grouped by format.

  • Tags and artwork kept

Titles, artists and albums come along by default, and cover art is kept for MP3, AAC and ALAC.

  • A queue that keeps going

Every file gets its own progress bar. Convert one at a time, or in parallel on up to half your CPU cores.

  • Clean up old recordings

Optional Light, Medium or Strong clean-up takes clicks and hiss out of tapes, vinyl rips and voice memos.

  • Never overwrites

If a file with the same name exists, Bitrate adds -1, -2 and so on. Your originals are never written over.

Planned Loudness normalization is being considered

Replaces NCH Switch

Coming from NCH Switch?

Bitrate covers the everyday conversions Switch is used for, natively on Apple silicon. There’s nothing to import and no settings to carry over: drop your files in and pick the format you used before.

Bitrate converts audio files. It doesn’t edit, record or rip CDs.

Your first conversion
  1. Drop your files onto the Bitrate window, or its Dock icon.
  2. Pick a preset such as MP3 320 kbps or AAC 256 kbps.
  3. Find the results next to the originals, tags and artwork included.
