Drag-and-drop audio conversion to MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG and Opus, with tags and artwork intact.
Video that just plays on Apple devices, remuxed natively on Apple silicon.
Rewrap turns MKV, AVI, TS and other video into MP4 and M4V files that play on your Mac, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Streams that already fit are copied across untouched, so most files are done in moments with no loss in quality. Only what can’t go into MP4 is converted, and chapters, metadata and cover art always come along.
Free · Signed and notarized · No network access · Nothing else to install
Drop in a video, see every track, pick a preset and go. Rewrap does the fiddly parts for you.
H.264 and HEVC video, AAC, AC3, E-AC3 and ALAC audio and text subtitles are copied into MP4 without re-encoding.
Convert with the Mac’s hardware encoder for speed, or x264 and x265 in one or two passes for quality.
Every job keeps chapters, metadata and cover art. It isn’t an option you have to remember.
Add SRT, ASS, SSA or WebVTT files as switchable subtitles, or burn text and Blu-ray or DVD subtitles into the picture.
Six built-in presets, from Passthru Remux to Apple TV 4K and Archive H.265, plus your own.
Queue many files at once, or pick a folder and Rewrap converts new videos as they arrive.
Planned Device-aware passthroughSplit by file sizeOnline metadata lookup
Most “won’t play” videos only need a new container. Rewrap looks at every stream in the file and remuxes the ones MP4 can hold, which is fast and loses nothing. A stream that can’t go into MP4 falls back to HEVC video or AAC 5.1 audio, and you can change any of it before you start.
Chapters, metadata and cover art are always kept.
MP4tools hasn’t been updated since 2019 and runs on Apple silicon only through Rosetta 2. Rewrap is a new app, written from scratch for Apple silicon, for the same everyday job: getting video into MP4 and M4V without losing chapters, tracks or artwork. It also converts to HEVC.
Rewrap is a new app and shares no code with MP4tools. There’s nothing to import: open your files and go.
