What’s built, and what’s next
Retitle is in active development. Here’s what already works in our development builds, and what is still to come. Details may change before release.

- ASS
- WebVTT
- PGS (.sup) · OCR planned
- VobSub (.idx/.sub) · OCR planned
-
Every common text format
Open and edit SRT, SSA/ASS and WebVTT, with lossless round trips: a clean file saves back byte for byte, and unknown ASS sections are kept.
In the dev build -
Retiming
Shift times for all, selected or following cues, change frame rate, synchronize from two points, and reset to the original timing.
In the dev build -
Fix conflicts
Overlaps, zero or negative durations and out-of-order cues are flagged in the row and status bar, and Fix Conflicts sorts them out.
In the dev build -
Clean text
Keep all tags, keep italics only or strip them, remove [bracketed] and (parenthesized) text, tidy spaces and drop cues left empty.
In the dev build -
Encodings that just work
Detects the encoding for you, with 20 to choose from, including Windows code pages, Shift-JIS, GB 18030, Big5 and KOI8-R. Save with or without a BOM.
In the dev build -
SSA/ASS styles
A styles inspector with usage counts, and an editor for fonts, colours, alignment and margins. Convert to SRT with italics and bold kept.
In the dev build -
On-device OCR
Turn Blu-ray PGS and DVD VobSub subtitles into editable SRT with Apple’s Vision framework. Nothing is uploaded and there are no language packs to download.
Planned -
Import from video files
List the subtitle tracks inside MKV, MP4 and M2TS files and open them directly, with no extra tools to install.
Planned -
Video preview
See the frame at the selected cue with your subtitle styled on top, so you can check timing and placement without leaving Retitle.

- Timing, conflict and clean-up tools in one window
