XenoHost

Local Apache, PHP and MySQL, done boring and inspectable.

A native Mac control panel for a local Apache, PHP and MySQL stack. Every site gets a real .local name, HTTPS and its own exact PHP version, and every change is previewed, applied as one transaction and rolled back if a health check fails. The config it writes is plain, readable and yours.

Signed & notarized · No Homebrew · No analytics or telemetry

Terminal — mysite
# what’s running, and what needs attention?
$ xenohost status
# run artisan with the site’s exact PHP
$ xenohost exec mysite -- php artisan migrate
# the site’s errors from the last 15 minutes
$ xenohost logs --site mysite --since 15m
What it does

What XenoHost does

It runs your local sites the way production does, and shows you every change before it makes it.

  • Real .local hostnames

Add a site folder and XenoHost writes its virtual host, a hosts entry and a certificate. Subdomains and aliases work too.

  • Save, with a preview

Edits collect in a draft. Save shows every file’s diff, applies it as one transaction and rolls it all back if a health check fails.

  • Exact PHP per site

Run several PHP 8.x patch versions side by side, each with its own PHP-FPM, and pin each site to one.

  • Terminal that matches

xenohost exec and Open in Terminal put the site’s exact PHP on your PATH, in Terminal or iTerm2.

  • HTTPS that renews itself

Certificates come from your existing mkcert CA and are reissued before they expire. XenoHost never creates a CA or changes trust.

  • Test on your iPhone

Every hostname, subdomains included, opens in Safari on an iPhone on the same Wi-Fi. No DNS setup on the phone.

  • MySQL matched to production

Oracle’s official MySQL 8.0.45, bound to 127.0.0.1. Create, export and import databases and copy .env settings.

  • Logs you can read

Apache, PHP, MySQL and Laravel errors grouped by site, with plain-language explanations and the raw logs one click away.

  • Imports from MAMP PRO

Bring over MAMP PRO’s sites with their exact PHP, and its whole MySQL server as a clone that leaves MAMP’s data untouched.

  • 0.005%Idle CPU, windows closed
  • 8.0.45MySQL, as on production
  • 0Homebrew packages needed
  • 3Engines managed: Apache, PHP, MySQL
Safe changes

See it before it happens. Undo it if it breaks.

XenoHost keeps MAMP PRO’s edit-then-Save way of working and makes Save honest. Every change becomes a plan: the exact files it will write and the services it will reload. Apply it and XenoHost validates the config, reloads, checks the site answers, and rolls everything back if it doesn’t, keeping your edits so you can try again.

  • A diff of every file before you apply
  • Crash-safe: an interrupted change is found and finished or rolled back
  • A Transaction History window lists every change
  • The config it writes keeps working even without XenoHost
What Save does
  1. Plan the files and service actions.
  2. Preview every diff before anything changes.
  3. Validate with httpd -t and php-fpm -t.
  4. Apply and reload only what changed.
  5. Check each site answers, or roll it all back.
iPhone

Open blog.mysite.local on your iPhone

XenoHost announces every site’s hostname on your local network, so Safari on an iPhone on the same Wi-Fi opens the real name, subdomains included, with nothing to set up on the phone. For trusted HTTPS, Send to iPhone AirDrops your local certificate authority and shows the trust steps.

  • The same names on your Mac and your phone
  • Only your CA’s public certificate goes to the phone
  • Needs a network that allows Bonjour

Replaces MAMP PRO

Coming from MAMP PRO?

XenoHost reads your MAMP PRO sites and brings them across with their exact PHP versions. Your MySQL server comes over as an APFS clone, so MAMP’s own data is never touched. Run the two side by side on alternate ports until you’re ready, then switch to the standard ones.

Import never changes MAMP PRO’s files or data.

Switching in three steps
  1. Import. Pick the MAMP PRO sites to bring over.
  2. Compare. Run alongside MAMP on 8080, 8443 and 3307.
  3. Switch ports. Move to 80, 443 and 3306 in one transaction.
