Rewrap

Open-source licenses

Last updated

Rewrap includes open-source software. This page lists each component in Rewrap 1.0.0, its license, and where to get the source code.

How the components are used

Rewrap bundles ffmpeg, ffprobe and MP4Box as separate command-line programs inside the app, in Rewrap.app/Contents/Resources/bin/. Rewrap runs them as separate processes and doesn’t link them into its own program. The libraries in the table below are built into those programs.

GNU General Public License

FFmpeg on its own is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Rewrap builds it with --enable-gpl --enable-version3 so that it can use x264 and x265, so the ffmpeg and ffprobe programs in Rewrap are covered by the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. x264 and x265 are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later.

These programs come with no warranty, to the extent permitted by law. The full license texts are also in Rewrap, in its Licenses & Attribution window.

How FFmpeg is configured

FFmpeg in Rewrap is built for Apple silicon (arm64) and macOS 14 or later, with network protocols turned off except local files:

--enable-gpl --enable-version3 --enable-videotoolbox
--enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libass
--disable-network --enable-protocol=file
--enable-static --disable-shared

The complete build scripts, with every option used, are included in the source archive.

Source code offer

The complete corresponding source code for every component above, at the exact versions in each Rewrap release, is published next to that release’s download as Rewrap-<version>-thirdparty-source.tar.xz. For Rewrap 1.0.0 that is Rewrap-1.0.0-thirdparty-source.tar.xz. The archive also contains the build scripts that show exactly how the bundled programs were configured and compiled.
